Biography

Dr. Ortiz has more than five years of experience in spacecraft systems, digital electronics, and software engineering. He received his Ph.D. in electronics from Universidad de Alcala de Henares (Spain) in 2019. He served as electronic engineer for over five years at Airbus Defence and Space (Spain/France), where one highlight was his contribution to the design of the ExoMars Descent Module On-Board Computer. During this period, he also worked as product test manager for the Mass Memory and Formatting Unit for the MetOp Second Generation satellites and as electronic designer for the Perseverance NASA rover’s wind sensor instrument. After completing his Ph.D., Dr. Ortiz joined the University of Melbourne in 2019 to lead the electronic and software design of the SkyHopper and SpIRIT nanosatellites. In 2021, Dr. Ortiz joined the University of Luxembourg in the Computer Vision, Imaging, and Machine Intelligence Research Group to continue working on increasing the computational capabilities on-board.
